Hot Summer Trends
Posted 6 years ago

Summer is our favorite time of the year! It's the time for any excuse to throw a party to enjoy the beautiful weather. Whether it's a pool party, backyard BBQ, movie night or just a family and friends get together, it's a great time to freshen up your home before your guests arrive! Kick off the Summer season with a new look by trying these on-trend summer decorating tips that are both easy and affordable!

1. Embellishments

Macramé, fringes, tassels, feathers, nail heads and tufting are all very popular this season. You'll see these on throw blankets, cushions, rugs, wall hangings and furniture. Liven up your living room with a set that features nail heads like the Ashley Furniture Bicknell Sectional or add simple items to your space such as a throw blanket with tassels on your bed or a macramé wall hanging on a plain wall in your living room.

2. Pops of Color

One of the strongest trends this season is bold pops of color. Choose one or two strong colors and mix them together to add interest to your space. Think canary yellow as seen in this Jackson Furniture Sutton Loveseat. Typically, people like to select red or orange as accent pops of color, but try thinking out of the box and go for something different this season! Don't be afraid to mix and match patterns as well. Different textures add depth to a look that your guests will love. Or go with the especially on-trend Ultra Violet color this season. This color was rated Pantone's 2018 Color of the Year so you know you can't go wrong with it!

3. Prints

Last year geometric prints were in and mainly seen on cushions and rugs. This year, it's all about tiles, wallpaper and art in fun, vibrant prints. Tropical palm leaf prints in bright hues during the summer months are a great addition. Your guests will feel like they are on a tropical vacation! Start simple with prints and slowly incorporate them into your décor by adding a brightly printed throw pillow to your Ashley Sofa or try covering your bed in a palm-leaf printed comforter. Or you could add a geometric accent chair to your living room set like the Ashley Furniture Gilmer one above. You could even add tropical accents to your kitchen and hang matching dish towels on your Frigidaire Range. If you're feeling really bold and daring, try an accent wall covered in a fun, vibrant print!

4. Ombre

You've seen it last year and you'll see it in many different ways this year from fabrics to cushions to rugs and bedding. The watercolor style seamlessly blends together colors and accent pieces which is why it's been so popular. The ombre look has taken over walls this year, but if you aren't brave enough to try it yourself on your walls, you can easily purchase wallpaper instead. Or a simpler trick is to get an ombre rug like this Ashley Furniture Talmage Tan/Black one!

5. Plants, Plants and More Plants

Houseplants are now becoming the must-have buy for homes. There's nothing simpler than adding a plant to any living space, so stop down to your local garden center or greenhouse to invest in some stunning plants. Easy-to-grow options are ferns, aloe vera, snake plants and ivy. If you're going with the tropical theme, try a Peace Lily, Gardenia or Lily. Place them in each room, use hanging plants for shelves, large leafy beauties for bare corners and smaller plants for coffee and end tables. Many opt for faux plants as well because the ones out there today look identical to the real ones!
